Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, formerly known as the Arts Magnet High School, consists of students enrolled in the music program and a music faculty of ten full-time and six part-time professionals.
The school is part of the Dallas Independent School District s magnet school program and houses grades The school also offers major programs in dance, theatre arts and visual arts. With a complete range of academic courses provided, the majority of the students are full-time, however there is also a part-time option available.
Music students are divided by major instruments into one of six areas which include: choral music, band, orchestral strings, piano, guitar and music synthesis. Graduates from the Arts Magnet in Dallas have quickly found their way to colleges, universities and careers in the arts. An average of 82 percent of graduates go to institutions of higher learning.
Ann B. A minor in music is available for students enrolled in any degree program. The Bachelor of Music degree is designed to allow maximum flexibility for students to pursue personal interests in individual and group performance and to gain experience teaching and leading in the fields of music education and church music.
Internships are required of all students involved in Church Music and Music Education. All students are required to develop performing skills through applied music study and performance through membership in various campus ensembles.

Edward Kahler, Chairman American Music Therapy Association National Association of Schools of Music Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Established: Music therapy, the language of the heart, combines the healing power of music with the skills of the music therapist to help restore mental and physical health. The program was established in with only a handful of students and has grown into a department with more than 45 students majoring in music therapy.
The program presents students many opportunities to directly work with a variety of clients under the supervision of registered music therapists. The Music Department offers the complete curriculum for the first two years towards a Bachelor of Music. A student may major in brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, piano or organ. The music program at Wharton employs current computer technology in many areas.
Our goal is to provide students with a good learning environment that includes music as an essential part. In addition to a full range of music education courses, we offer courses in music history and music theory. Mozart Fest Hancock Drive, No. Mozart Fest presents critically acclaimed solo, chamber music and chamber orchestra concerts centered on music of Mozart and later music he inspired. Our mission is to bring the music of Mozart and of later composers he inspired to as many people as possible, through highest-quality performances. Our concerts also include introductory commentary to heighten our audience s enjoyment of this music.
We achieve our goals through a yearly season of high-quality public concerts, wherein each work is introduced by commentary and musical examples to establish a common emotional ground between our performers and our audience. Auditions are held in the Spring. Four student concerts, five classical concerts and four pops concerts are presented each season. Season ticket sales are 1.
